Creating an Application

This page explains the basic process for creating an application in MIStudio.

Overview

An application is a workspace inside a MIStudio project. Applications are used to organize screens, graphics, data connections, logic, and user interface behavior.

A project may contain one application or multiple applications, depending on how the system is organized.

When to Create an Application

Create an application when you need a new screen, workspace, dashboard, or organized area inside a project.

For example, separate applications may be used for:

  • Main dashboard views
  • Equipment status screens
  • Chart or trend displays
  • Operator controls
  • Data source examples
  • Customer-specific screens

Basic Steps

  • Right click on applications and select add application.
  • Once created the design and logic windows will appear.
  • Now in the project window in applications your new one is present.
  • Enter an application name in the settings.
  • Add graphics or controls to the application.
  • Configure properties and connections as needed.
  • Save the project.

Choosing an Application Name

Use a name that describes what the application contains.

Good application names are short, clear, and easy to recognize.

Examples:

  • MainDashboard
  • EquipmentStatus
  • ProductionOverview
  • AlarmDisplay
  • OperatorControls
  • ChartView

Avoid names that are vague or difficult to understand later. It is also best to avoid spaces or special characters in application names unless your MIStudio version specifically supports them.

After the Application Is Created

After creating an application, the next step is usually to add graphics.

Graphics are the visual components used to build the application screen. These may include labels, boxes, meters, indicators, buttons, charts, or other display elements.
