Overview

The Chaser graphic is a More Layout motion display graphic used to show animated segment movement.

Chaser can be used to show flow, movement, activity, or another changing process state. It displays a group of segments where the active segment moves through the display.

The animation speed is controlled by the incoming input value and the configured Low Value and High Value range.

Common Uses

  • Showing flow or movement
  • Displaying process activity
  • Creating animated status indicators
  • Showing directional motion
  • Representing active equipment or running processes
  • Adding visual movement to an application screen

Input Behavior

Chaser accepts input through valueInput.

The input can come from a data source, Constant, or another logic component.

Numeric input controls the Chaser animation speed.

Values outside the configured Low Value and High Value range are limited to the nearest range value.

Output Behavior

Chaser has no default output ports.

Chaser is used as an animated display graphic.

Chaser-Specific Behavior

Chaser displays animated segment movement.

Chaser-specific settings include:

  • Name Sets the name of the Chaser graphic.
  • Color Active Sets the color of the active moving segment.
  • Bezel Sets the Chaser bezel style.
  • Direction Controls whether the animation moves forward or reverse.
  • High Value Sets the high end of the input range.
  • Low Value Sets the low end of the input range.
  • Color Non-Active Sets the color of the inactive segments.
  • Number of Segments Sets the total number of segments in the Chaser display.
  • Shaded Segments Sets the number of shaded segments in the motion animation.
  • Orientation Controls whether the Chaser is horizontal or vertical.
  • Spaces Between Segments Sets the gap between segments.
  • Use Color Controls whether incoming server colors are used for the active display.
  • Arc Height, Rounded Rectangles Sets the corner arc height when rounded rectangle segments are used.
  • Arc Width, Rounded Rectangles Sets the corner arc width when rounded rectangle segments are used.
  • Bad Qual. Indicator Controls the indicator used when bad quality data is received.
  • Bezel Color Sets the outside bezel color.
  • Bezel Inside Color Sets the inside bezel color.
  • Bezel Thickness Sets the thickness of the bezel.
  • Margin Bottom Sets the space between the segments and the bottom edge of the graphic.
  • Clear Active When Stopped Controls whether the active segment clears when the Chaser is stopped.
  • Cursor Sets the cursor shown when the pointer is over the Chaser.
  • Margin Left Sets the space between the segments and the left edge of the graphic.
  • Max Speed Sets the fastest animation timing.
  • Min Speed Sets the slowest animation timing.
  • Margin Right Sets the space between the segments and the right edge of the graphic.
  • Rotation Sets the Chaser rotation.
  • Segment Style Controls the segment shape.
  • Stop at Minimum Speed Controls whether the animation stops at the minimum value.
  • Margin Top Sets the space between the segments and the top edge of the graphic.
  • Click Action Defines a click action.
  • Click Count Sets the number of clicks used for the click action.
  • Visible Controls whether the Chaser is shown.
  • Warning Qual. Indicator Controls the indicator used when warning or transitional quality data is received.

Logic Ports

In the Logic Editor, Chaser includes this default port:

  • valueInput

The valueInput port updates the Chaser animation behavior from a data source, Constant, or another logic component.

Animation Behavior

Chaser uses the incoming value to control animation speed.

A lower input value produces slower motion or stopped behavior, depending on the Chaser settings.

A higher input value produces faster motion.

The Direction property controls whether the animation moves forward or reverse.

Segment Display

The Chaser display is made from multiple segments.

The Number of Segments property controls how many segments appear.

The Shaded Segments property controls how many segments are included in the moving shaded trail.

The Segment Style property controls the segment shape.

Notes

Use Chaser when a screen needs animated motion or flow-style behavior.

Use ProgressBar when a value should be shown as progress instead of motion.

Use Indicator when a value should be shown as text or status instead of animation.

For general graphic behavior, see Active Graphic.
